On December 11 in Las Vegas, trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. was ringside for Amir Khan's close decision win over Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay. Mayweather was less than impressed with Khan's performance. A lot has been written that Khan's skills have continued to improve since hooking up with trainer Freddie Roach. Mayweather disagrees. He feels Khan was a better fighter without Roach.
He felt Khan displayed very little boxing and mostly ran after dropping Maidana with a combination to the body in the first round.
"Man, I thought Amir Khan looked like dog sh*t. Everybody talk about how Freddie Roach made him a better fighter. Freddie Roach made him a worse fighter. He caught that guy with a nice shot early, but after that, all he did was f**king run. He was running for his life in there and he's lucky it wasn't a 15 round fight like the old days or you know what would have happened to him? He would have been stopped," Mayweather Sr. told Percy Crawford of fighthype.com
"Khan looked like sh*t man. Man, let me tell you something man, Freddie Roach ain't did nothing for Khan. He looked like sh*t. He would stand still and throw a few punches and then start f**king running again."
