The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that newly crownded IBF junior middleweight champion Cory Spinks is in serious discussions to face welterweight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in his next fight, which would be the main event of a pay-per-view scheduled on November 4.

Kevin Cunningham, who is the manager and trainer of Spinks, told the paper that negotiations to make the fight have gotten "very, very serious" and things are looking good for the fight to happen.

"Things are looking very, very good for Floyd to be the next fight. We're in serious negotiations. It's a huge opportunity that would put Cory into a whole other hemisphere if he won," Cunningham said.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser, confirmed that talks have taken place, but the talks were preliminary and although Cunningham wants Spinks to be the opponent for November 4, he would likely be Mayweather's opponent for his next pay-per-view which is scheduled on February 24.

"It's just preliminary discussions. Cory is a strong possibility (for February)," Ellerbe said. But we can't fight everybody on the same night. Much as the fans would like that to happen, Floyd can only fight one at a time."
