The Grand Rapids Press reports that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is already planning dates for his next two fights, since it appears that a fight with Oscar De La Hoya is not going to happen any time soon, if ever.
After being advised by Golden Boy that a proposed De La Hoya bout for Sept. 16 is not going to happen, Leonard Ellerbe, the adviser for Mayweather, told the paper that Floyd will fight on Nov. 4, and then on Feb. 24, 2007, his birthday. HBO has stated that both of the Mayweather fight date are dates they plan to stage pay-per-views, which means Mayweather will be facing name fighters.
"With the timelines being what they are, we can't wait. I'm not saying Oscar isn't ever going to fight Floyd, but if he was going to fight Floyd on that date, he would say that. That hasn't happened. It appears to us that Oscar is not going to be available to fight this year, and with Floyd being the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, we're moving forward," said Ellerbe told the Grand Rapids Press
While the opponent is not set for the November 4 bout, Ellerbe did state that Ricky Hatton, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas and Carlos Baldomir are all in the running. Bouts with Mosley or Vargas would depend on who wins their rematch in July, and facing Carlos Baldomir would depend on him being victorious against Arturo Gatti, also taking place next month.
