The World Boxing Council’s innovative gesture - which asks fight fans to vote for one of two belts designed for the winner of the “Fight of the Century” between eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayeather Jr. -   remains too close to call.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman had announced that “for this extraordinary fight, the WBC will present an exquisite belt, the design of which is currently being chosen by fans from around the world.”

The first option is an Onyx belt while the second is a belt encrusted with emeralds.

The WBC website reported that until now the Emerald belt is “marginally edging ahead in the fans voting by 52 percent as against the 48 percent for the Onyx belt, but its still a close thing.”

The good news, according to the WBC, is that fans still have an opportunity to vote until

Monday.

The WBC will announce the results as soon as possible.

When Pacquiao fought Miguel Cotto for thr welterweight title on November 14, 2009, the late Don Jose Sulaiman had a specially crafted “Diamond Belt”, the first of its kind, for the winner.

Pacquiao won the belt with his rousing 12th round TKO victory over Cotto which was his last stoppage.
