Coming off his dominating win over Shane Mosley from last Saturday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has opened up as the betting favorite to beat Manny Pacquiao in a potential welterweight mega-fight. We have learned from Richard Gardner, a sportsbook manager for betting site Bodog, that Mayweather opened up as a -140 favorite and Pacquiao opened at +110.
Gardner reports that last Saturday's Mayweather-Mosley fight was the most wagered boxing event since Mayweather's record breaking fight with Oscar De La Hoya in 2007. He says the majority of the people betting went with Mosley (went off at +300) and the over.
There were about 50% more bettors for Mayweather-Mosley than for Manny Pacquiao's March fight with Joshua Clottey but Gardner says the reason for that is because none of the people betting believed Clottey had a shot to win and there were people who had faith in Mosley.
