WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25KOs) is not thinking about a potential unification clash with Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs), the holder of the WBA title.
Following his knockout win over Ricky Hatton last weekend in Las Vegas, Mayweather was hounded with questions regarding a bout with Cotto. Mayweather is more interested in taking a long vacation from the sport and focusing on his promotional company.
“Cotto’s a hell of a champion and the welterweight division is the best weight class in boxing. There are a lot of great fighters in the welterweight division and the junior middleweight division but I’ve done all I wanted to accomplish in boxing so I’m not thinking about fighting any of them,” Mayweather said.
Cotto, who raised his bar in 2007 by stopping Zab Judah and winning a decision over Shane Mosley, feels Mayweather is making excuses to avoid a fight.
"I let the promoters decide who I fight," Cotto said. "I know what style Mayweather likes to fight and I'll be happy to fight him. But it seems like whenever anyone mentions it, Mayweather always has an excuse."
