Mayweather's New Watch Line To Help WBC's Fund For Boxers

Five division world champion Floyd Mayweather was present when Hublot announced his new watch line, and the sales from those watches will help the World Boxing Council's fund to assist boxers in need.

According to the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, the fund is a benefit for fighters in all weight classes who are going through serious economic problems or living in difficult times due to accidents in the ring.

Years ago, Hublot and the late WBC President José Sulaimán agreed to the issuance of special edition watches to support the said fund.

Sulaiman told ESTO - "This is the second event to raise funds for the José Sulaimán Fund and Floyd's watch was launched (on Saturday) at a Hublot boutique in Las Vegas."

Regarding the number of boxers who are going to receive this benefit, the WBC Prez stated: "They are more than 100. The fund helps legendary boxers or boxers who are only doing four rounders, or if a boxer is hurt in a fight at this moment.. this would immediately apply... the fund gives them assistance. It does not matter which sanctioning body it is; an evaluation is made, its specific status and the contribution is obtained."

Indicating that the next auction will be in September or October of this year in Las Vegas, Sulaimán pointed out that 12 champions will be selected again.

"Now, with different dynamics. They are going to raffle life experiences, like dancing with Holyfield or a week in Panama with Durán," he added.

In May 2013, the WBC and the Nevada Community Foundation (NCF) announced the creation of the WBC Boxers Foundation, a life dream of José Sulaimán, as a well-financed vehicle to help boxers in need.

The WBC raised a million dollars of initial capital for the fund, in conjunction with Hublot, at a legendary charity event that took place in September 2012.

Hublot CEO JC Biver said: "Our companies earn so much money from sports, we have a duty to give back to those who have made boxing a great sport."

The event celebrated the glory of 12 legendary former WBC champions and culminated with an auction with the same number of special edition commemorative watches. The Nevada Community Foundation administers the fund.
