The hoopla for the Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather fight, scheduled for Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is already at freak-show levels.
Now gambling on the bout also is approaching gargantuan proportions, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
In the last 10 days, the report says, at least three six-figure bets have been placed on the fight, the largest on Mayweather at minus-550.
The William Hill sports book reportedly took three $50,000 wagers on McGregor in July, with the report adding that an upset by the UFC star could result in the book’s largest payout ever in Nevada.
Prop bets are also becoming very popular, with one popular wager being a Mayweather win by disqualification.
“Most casual fans think McGregor’s going to get frustrated and do something in the ring to get himself disqualified,” Wiseguys sports book director Bob Scucci told the Review-Journal. “I could see it happening by accident, by instinct. I can certainly see him getting frustrated.”
For the moment, one book (CG Technology) reports 93 percent of the tickets are on McGregor but 75 percent of the money is on Mayweather.
