Floyd Mayweather Jr. is placing the full might of his resources behind rising welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14KOs).
Mayweather Promotions was the lead promoter for Saturday's Premier Boxing Champions card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In the PBC televised co-feature on NBC, Spence blew out late replacement Phil Lo Greco in three rounds.
Spence is now being positioned to return on the undercard to Mayweather's next pay-per-view, which is scheduled for September 12th at the MGM Grand.
Two of the tops names in the division, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, are pushing to get Mayweather on that September date.
But Mayweather has rejected the idea of facing either of them - but he does offer both of them the ability to secure a top position on the undercard - against Spence.
To sweeten the pot, Mayweather is willing to vacate one of his welterweight titles (he holds the WBC, WBA and WBO), in order to turn Spence vs. Porter/Thurman into a world title fight.
"I think two good match-ups for [Spence] is either Shawn Porter in September or Keith Thurman. I haven’t relinquished my belts yet, but once of these guys says 'you know what, we'll take the fight. We want the fight with Errol Spence.' Then guess what? We're gonna make it happen," Mayweather said.
"I haven't relinquished my belts yet. I haven't even received my WBO, but I may not want to relinquish my WBO. I may want to relinquish one of my other belts. We just don't know. But, September...Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman. I will relinquish my title, I don't know which belt. If one of them wants to face Errol Spence for the belt. We can make the fight happen for a title."
