Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 22 KOs) has launched a verbal attack on WBA junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs), of Puerto Rico, and his veteran trainer Emanuel Steward. The fight happens on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayorga launched his attack after being advised that Cotto and Steward are predicting a knockout victory within four rounds. Mayorga said he is training for the fight of his life and currently weighs 156-pounds, which is two pounds within the contract limit for the fight.
"They are both clowns. They are both failures. After this fight, I'll show that they are both failures. [People] always try to underestimate me and belittle me but it won't work in this fight. It makes me work a lot harder and makes me more hungry," Mayorga said. "Steward, I believe that he's a failure. He got lucky early in his career by working with a very famous fighter [Thomas Hearns]. It's sad how he's trying to change Cotto's style of fighting. It's going to play in my favor."
After Cotto, Mayorga is planning to target a fight with Manny Pacquiao. He predicts a knockout victory over Cotto, and Pacquiao.
"When I knock out Manny Pacquiao, I'll become the most famous fighter of all time. That's what im working for," Mayorga said.
