Former world boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga is resfusing to sign to a document that allows his promoter Don King to withdraw a million dollars which King had recently deposited in a Florida court to prevent Mayorga from attempting to make his debut in MMA.
Mayorga did not sign the document on Saturday, and he didn't get a promotional release from Don King, after an angry discussion that took place with the powerful developer in his office in the state of the Florida.
King asked Mayorga to sign the document on Saturday. The document would permit him to withdraw the million dollars from the Florida court. But King did not offer him any clear alternative on a possible return to the ring, and that bothered him so much, that he demanded his release.
Mayorga tried to negotiate his release, in exchange for signing that document, but King said the issue of a release was matter to be discussed later, which annoyed the Nicaraguan boxer, who told King that he ruined his career in professional boxing.
"Ricardo was very angry and told Mr. King that he had stolen from him and that he only paid him miserable purses for his fights and the fights were strong. Ricardo was very angry and with just reason", explained former champion Rosendo Álvarez, who accompanies Mayorga as a coach.
Rosendo told us about the presumed intention that exists on the part of the managers of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to make a fight with Mayorga for his next ring outing. But it was explained that any negotiation would be stalled because of altercation between King and Mayorga.
"Ricardo told King that he has to pay him at least $100,000 because he would not allow him fight in MMA, but he refused. He just wanted the document signed to release the million dollars from the court," Alvarez stressed.
