At the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario, California, junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera (17-1, 7KOs) failed to make a bigger splash as he came off the biggest win of his career. Back in January, Herrera beat then unbeaten Ruslan Provodnikov on ESPN's Friday Night Fights. This time around he won an easy decision over journeyman Cristian Favela (19-32-7, 10KOs) with a lackluster performance. Neither boxer took any chances and Herrera simply outboxed his overmatched foe. The scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 80-72.
Also on the card, Mauricio's brother, Alberto Herrera (7-3-1, 5KOs) lost a hard-fought eight round split decision to Aaron Martinez (14-1-1, 3KOs). The scores were 77-75 for Herrera and 77-75 and 77-74 for Martinez. Martinez and Herrera went to battle at a high pace but it was the usually durable Herrera who tired in the late rounds. Herrera drops his third fight in a row, which includes a one-sided decision loss to Demetrius Andrade in his last January outing.
