BoxingScene.com recently caught up with undefeated lightweight "Mighty Mo" Maurice Hooker (18-0-2) who faces Ghislain Maduma (17-1) on the off television Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux undercard on Saturday. The pay-per-view event takes place at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Dallas, Tex. resident is very pleased to have the opportunity to fight in front of what is expected to be a sold out venue.
"I'm very excited to get the opportunity to show people my skills and show them what I got. It's a good chance for me to get my name it there," said Hooker.
The 26-year-old is 2-0 in 2015 and has stopped his last 5 opponents with only one making it past the 2nd round. Hooker credits his recent run to not trying to force anything.
"I have power in both hands. Any punch can do it. I've been staying calm, staying relaxed and place my shots," he explained.
Hooker is on the cusp of a title shot and feels that his opportunity will come next year. He insists however that he is focused on this upcoming fight, knowing that a loss would throw a monkey wrench in his plans.
Maduma is known as a tough fighter and has an experience edge on Hooker with his only loss coming at the hands of Kevin Mitchell in a title eliminator fight.
"I think by the middle of next year I will get a title shot but first I have to worry about this fight and get this fight out of the way then I can worry about that," Hooker old BoxingScene.com.
