LAS VEGAS, NV - WBC interim super lightweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs) firmly has his sights set on facing the WBC's full champion, Danny Garcia in his next fight. He was hardly touched in his 1st round knockout victory over Mike Dallas on Saturday in Las Vegas. He said that he hopes to be back in the ring as soon as possible.
"It depends on what my promoters say. I hope to be back in the ring as soon as I can. Like you said I wasn't really touched in this fight. Garcia is the fight I want. I want to be the full champion," Matthysse told BoxingScene.
A fight that has been mentioned by Matthysse's co-promoter Golden Boy Promotions is an all Argentine showdown between Matthysse and former champion Marcos Maidana (33-3, 30KOs). BoxingScene's Rick Reeno reported last week that Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer wants to make that fight next.
Matthysse told us that while a fight against Maidana would be big in his country, he didn't think it would be feasible in the near future.
"It would be a great fight. It would be a really big fight in Argentina but he's at 147 and I'm at 140. I feel good at 140. I don't want to move up right now so that isn't a fight I'm thinking about right now," Matthysse explained.
