Former title challenger Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse (37-3) is in the final stages of his training camp for his October 3rd showdown against Viktor Postol (26-0) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The HBO televised fight will be for the vacant WBC super lightweight strap.
In his last fight earlier this year, Matthysse edged out the relentless Ruslan Provodnikov in an exciting "Fight of the Year" candidate.
Provodnikov has so far been unsuccessful in securing a rematch with the Argentine.
When asked if he was interested in facing the fighter known as the Siberian Rocky a second time, Matthysse replied - "I have a lot of respect for Provodnikov as a fighter but right now I am going to be fighting for a world tile and that is where my focus is at."
Matthysse is one of the best fighters in the sport but for all of his accomplishments, he has only held an interim title. He said that he is very focused on winning his first world title and is willing to do whatever it takes to win the belt.
"I am prepared to leave everything in the ring and bring home the title to Argentina. I am grateful to the fans for all of their support and I will thank them by winning the title," Matthysse told BoxingScene.com.
