According to the press of Atlantic City, former WBC light heavyweight champion Matthew Saad Muhammad died at age 59 from unknown causes at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia. Saad Muhammad, who grew up as Matthew Franklin, earned a 49-16-3 record with 35 knockouts during an 18-year professional career. He lost the WBC crown to Dwight Muhammad Qawi on December 19, 1981. Muhammad last fought in 1992 and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998.

I moved to Canada, just across the border from Buffalo, when I was nine. The earliest fight I ever remembered seeing was Saad vs Conteh 2
Being from England, the result kind of sucked. But man, Saad was just such a thrilling guy to watch, great era for the light heavies, very inspirational story.

wow I actually had the opportunity to train and hit the pads with him when i was training in high school. He was one of the nicest guys and took a lot of time to train young kids for free at the Atlantic city Pal boxing gym to help youth get off the streets. RIP Champ
