European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton was told by Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, that he'll try to get him a shot at WBC champion Andre Berto, possible in the summer. Berto is going to defend his title against Golden Boy fighter Victor Ortiz on April 16. Hatton put on such a gutsy performance in his loss to Saul Alvarez last Saturday in Anaheim, California, that HBO wants to bring him back in another big fight.
"After the fight Richard Schaefer told me HBO were very impressed with my showing, with my bravery and they did mention a possible fight against Andre Berto. And I know my team are working on another world-title challenge as we speak - at welterweight obviously -I'm hoping for another world title in the summer," Hatton told Sky Sports.
Hatton blames the weight for his recent loss to Alvarez. The fight was made at 150-pounds. Alvarez came in at 151.8. Hatton doesn't believe that he tried to make the weight.
"I don't think he attempted to make the weight. He knew I'd come a long way, some fans had come over so there was no way I wasn't going to take the fight because I'd never do that - and it worked against me," Hatton said.
