Last Weekend in Germany, Commonwealth (British Empire) heavyweight champ Matt Skelton (20-1, 18KOs) sat ringside for IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko's six-round drubbing of Lamon Brewster.
Klitschko dominated Brewster in the win, but in a conversation with The Sun, Skelton claims to have found several flaws that have made him confident of victory if the two fighters ever met in the ring.
This coming Saturday at the O2 Arena, Skelton defends his title against the man he previously knocked out, Michael Sprott on Saturday night to defend his Commonwealth title. Promoter Frank Warren wants the winner to land a title shot against one of the four major champions. Skelton, confident of victory, would like Klitschko if possible. At this point in his career, Skelton feels that he is ready to leave for a possible run in America.
“I can beat Klitschko. He is not so good fighting off the back foot. And after seeing him against Brewster, I know I can do him. The carrot for the winner of the Sprott fight is a possible world title bout and I really don’t mind who it is,” Skelton said. “I’m not a young man, as people keep reminding me, but I have only been boxing for four and a half years, so I’m fresh and still full of ambition. “Domestically, there is no one there for me. I want to win a world title before I retire."
