Sparkassen-Arena, Kiel, Germany - Polish cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak (26-0, 20 KOs), considered by many as a young hope in the Polish boxing scene, continued his recent streak of knockouts with another dominant stoppage - this time over rugged Mexican champion Felipe Romero (15-5-1, 10 KOs), who defeated Saul Montana and the late Julo Cesar Gonzalez in his last three fights.
Masternak, who has recently been signed by the Sauerland Event and who seems to be on a fast track to the world title, won every round and scored knockdowns in round three and six. Still, the stoppage came suddenly when referee Josef Temml unexpectedly intervened and waved the bout off at 2:06 of the tenth and last round. Romero was fighting back against the ropes and was hurt a bit but he was still throwin punches. However, the referee hardly remained in his upright position while trying to end the fight and he almost fell down. Masternak is ranked #7 by the WBO, #9 by the WBC and WBA and #10 by the IBF.
