On Saturday night in Frankfurt, Polish cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak (25-0, 19 KOs) made his promotional debut with Sauerland Event. The Polish fighter stopped Michael Simms (22-16-2, 14 KOs) in the fourth round. Sauerland's General Manager, Chris Meyer, is convinced that Masternak will become a world champion in the future. Masternak is going to return on March 31, but no opponent has been set as of yet. Meyer's company plans to move Masternak on a well groomed road in search of a world title.
"Mateusz will move slowly, step by step, pushing towards the big fights. This is a new start for his career. So far everything is progressing well, with his team and [trainer] Andrew Gmitruk. We are now going to climb to the next level, which means that sooner or later, depending on how well he progresses, he will fight for the European titles, the intercontinental, and then finally we'll give him a fight for the championship of the world," Meyer told RingPolska.
