Less than a month after losing his EBU title by way of a technical knockout defeat in Moscow to Grigory Drozd (37-1, 26 KOs), Polish cruiserweight contender Mateusz Masternak (30-1, 22 KOs) is still working out the details to hire a new trainer to work his corner. Masternak parted ways with longtime trainer Andrew Gmitruk, and 51-year-old Karsten Röwer, who trains several fighters under the Sauerland Event stable, is another name being mentioned to take over as head trainer. Masternak was offered a return date of December 14th, but he told Sauerland that he needs more time to rest after the October 5th loss.
