The Monitor reports that Oleg Maskaev (33-5, 26 KOs) is not overlooking his voluntary defense of the WBC heavyweight title, when he meets Ugandan Peter Okhello on December 10 in Olympiyski Sports Arena, Moscow.
Many experts have been critical of Maskaev, with respect to taking on an easy opponent, rather than giving a shot to a top contender. Maskaev feels that Okhello will be a tough bout, and not easy like many expect.
"This bout will be the tough one and very exciting," said Maskaev. It surely won't be the walk in the park as many of you are expecting right now."
Maskaev knows that he is giving Okhello the chance of lifetime, and his opponent will likely train for the fight of his life. Okhello, regarded by most as and ordinary fringe contender, would pull off one of the biggest upsets of the year if he dethrones Maskaev.
"He [Okhello] is fast and hard-hitting; his movement in the squared ring is wonderful. And I won't take him lightly," Maskaev stated. "Okhello (above) has a chance of a lifetime, and he has been getting ready [for his title shot] for his entire career. He will be one-hundred percent prepared for this challenge, and I'm sure, he will do his best not to waste this attempt."
