According to Kirill Pchelnikov, one of the leading Russian promoters nowadays, former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev (37-7, 28 KOs) will continue his comeback either in April or May against an opponent to be named.
“Oleg is definitely going on with his comeback. He is serious about that. His next fight is about to take place either in Moscow, the Russian capital, or in Saransk, which is the capital of Mordovia”, said Pchelnikov in his interview with RSport. “We have reached an agreement in principle to make the bout but an understandable pause occurred due to the New Year’s holidays. We shall have set it up till the end of January, as soon as there’s a clue on the broadcasting rights. The fight will take place not earlier than two months from that date”.
Maskaev, who will turn 44 in less than two months, came back on the New Year’s Eve (December 30) to stop badly faded Jamaican Owen Beck within three one-sided rounds.
