Filipino prospect Marvin ‘Chavacano Disaster’ Mabait has joined the All Star Boxing stable, it was announced Tuesday morning.
“We are happy to add Marvin Mabait to our stable,” said Tuto Zabala Jr. of All-Star Boxing. “He is a good young prospect and we are ready to start working with him towards a world title shot.”
The signing also results in Mabait (18-1-2, 12KO) making his stateside debut, appearing on a June 28 show in Kissimmee, Florida. His appearance on the pending Telemundo telecast – headlined by Jose Nieves in regional bantamweight title bout - has yet to be confirmed.
“I am ready for my U.S. debut,” said Mabait, whose June 28 opponent has not yet been secured. “I will demonstrate to the world that I’m ready to be a champion; thanks to Mr. Zabala for the opportunity.”
Mabait, who hails from Zamboanga City, Philippines, is co-managed by Gerry Penalosa and Vinny Scolpino. Penalosa is a former two-time champion; Scolpino has produced several champions from overseas, including former bantamweight titlist Joseph Agbeko and former welterweight titlist Joshua Clottey.
Mabait is currently riding a two-fight win streak following the lone loss of his career, coming against then-unbeaten Top 10 super flyweight Marco Demecillo a year ago. His most recent win came earlier this month, scoring a stoppage over Rey Las Pinas in his native Philippines, where all of his career bouts to date have taken place.
