Sampson Lewkowicz, adviser to WBC middleweight champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (51-2-2, 26KOs), is currently negotiating a deal for his boxer to defend his crown against three division beltholder Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) on June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Lewkowicz will know either way if the fight will happen by the end of this month. If a deal is not reached, Martinez would be forced to make a mandatory defense against Marco Antonio Rubio. A backup plan is already in place to stage a title defense in Argentina, possibly at the legendary Luna Park.

"By the end of the month, we will surely know if Sergio will defend the title against Cotto on June 7 in MSG. That's the priority. He wants to face the Puerto Rican. If we fail to reach an agreement with Cotto, the intention is to defend the title in Buenos Aires in a stadium. Martinez feels an obligation to the Argentine public and he wants to return the affection and love that they give him." Lewkowicz said.
