At the Bolton Arena in Bolton, up-and-coming British middleweight prospect Martin Murray (20-0, 7 KOs) has captured his first ever professional title (aside Prizefighter for sure) decisioning rough and tough Australian Peter Mitrevski Jr. (23-7-1, 11 KOs) over twelve one-sided rounds for the Commonwealth belt. The fight was mostly fought in close quarters where Murray used his mastership and quickness to get a slight but notable edge over limited Australian guest. All in all, it wasn't an impressive but rather a workmanlike victory ofr still improving Murray and yet another (expected) setback for Mitrevski. Scores were 120-108 and 120-109 (twice).
In a final British super bantamweight eliminator, rising star Scott Quigg (19-0, 13 KOs) continued his route of terror by dismissing extra-durable Scottish Gavin Reid (6-7-1, 3 KOs) in nine painful rounds. Quigg worked from the outside easily neglecting a pressure of plodding Reid while adding some fast hooks on his way out. In round nine, Quigg landed an explosive upprcut to shake Reid mercilessly and the finished him off with a barrage of fast left hooks. The Scottish fighter was never down but referee Howard Foster did a right job by stopping the contest.
