Robert Marroquin and Antonio Escalante will square off in a scheduled 10 round featherweight bout on March 16th, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told Boxingscene.com earlier this week.
The Marroquin-Escalante bout will headline a “Solo Boxeo” card and will take place at the WinStar Casino in Thackerville, OK.
UniMas will televise the Top Rank card live at 11:30 PM ET/ 10:30 PM CT.
Top Rank will be promoting two fight cards on March 16th, as they will promote the Timothy Bradley-Ruslan Provodnikov card, which will take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. HBO will televise that card.
Marroquin (22-2, 15 KOs) of Dallas, TX is coming off a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux on September 15th. Marroquin was dropped twice in the fight at the hands of the former amateur Cuban star.
Ironically, Marroquin’s other defeat was at the same venue he will fight in on March 16th. In that bout, Marroquin lost a 10 round split decision to Francisco Leal in April of 2011.
Escalante (28-5, 19 KOs) of El Paso, TX, was stopped in eighth round of his last fight by Rocky Juarez. The loss snapped a four-bout winning streak. It has also been over three years since Escalante has made it to the final bell.
Also scheduled to appear on the card is unbeaten junior middleweight Abraham Han (18-0, 12 KOs) taking on James Freeman in a scheduled eight round bout.
