Promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, who works closely with former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs), would like to see his fighter headline a big event in Mexico before they even explore the possibility of a fight with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22KOs).

Marquez, 41-years-old, has been out of the ring since a May 2014 twelve round decision victory over Mike Alvarado at The Forum in Inglewood, California. He was supposed to return in December but knee injury prevented that from happening. Marquez has been taking his time with properly rehabbing the injury.

"Everything depends entirely on how he feels with the injury that's had in the knee. We will discuss everything when he returns [back to Mexico]. But if he decides to return, then we'll discuss what comes next. I personally would like him to do a fight in Mexico before going into that fight with Brook, which might be good for the second half of the year provided both parties are available," Beltran told ESPN Deportes.
