WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and his trainer/manager, Nacho Beristain, are not going to allow the issue of weight to become a deal-breaker for a potential trilogy meeting with WBO welterweight king Manny Pacquiao. Despite a limit of 147-pounds, they expect Pacquiao to weigh in around 144. With a reported guarantee of $5 million dollars on the table for a fall pay-per-view meeting, Marquez is very close to the fight he truly desires.
“It's no secret that the overall goal in my career is to secure the third fight with Pacquiao. I have to be very quiet while negotiating this part of my career. Pacquiao, and the people, know that I beat him twice - and therefore I want to prove that I can beat him at whatever weight he wants," Marquez said.
Marquez may be present for Pacquiao's Saturday showdown against Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
