MEXICO CITY - The Sonoran fighter will start tomorrow in Puerto Rico with the firm objective of an upset on Saturday when he faces Filipino Nonito Donaire in Puerto Rico as they contend for the Interim WBA super flyweight title.
Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs) will face Marquez (27-1, 20 KOs) in a card put together by Zanfer and Top Rank at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey and televised by Showtime in the United States and by Television Azteca in Mexico.
Marquez is set to leave on Tuesday for Puerto Rico with his team, led by Head Coach Rudy Perez, who trained him for five weeks in the gymnasium of Pino Suarez in Mexico City.
"I understand the position I am, I am not the favorite so I've had a lot of
pressure since we signed the fight with Donaire and in return it has given me a great
motivation and security in myself. I will go into the ring that night against Donaire to win, "said the fighter native of Empalme, Sonora.
Hernan Marquez said he is ready for this fight because it will determine the rest of his career.
"Life offers few opportunities and I must take when them when they occur, Zanfer offered us this fight and we took it," said the boxer 21 years of age.
Marquez has tasted a bitter pill in his defeat against another Filipino, Richie Mepranum in March in Texas, however he said the incident is forgotten.
"That defeat taught me a great lesson. I have prepared better for this fight,
arrived without any weight problems. We have demonstrated that we will overcome to become the crowned world champion," Marquez said.
