Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) is going to have a meeting with promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions within the next two weeks.

The 42-year-old veteran has been away from the ring since last May's twelve round decision win over Mike Alvarado.

Marquez has often mentioned the possibility of fighting for a fifth world title at welterweight, but Beltran is not fully sure that Marquez wants to fight again.

The clock is running down to where Marquez will be out of the ring for far too long where a comeback will look less and less likely.

Marquez had planned several returns in the last year or so. They were always postponed or canceled due to ongoing issues with his knee. The issue with his knee first started in early 2014 and became worse as the year continued.

According to his longtime trainer Nacho Beristain, Marquez has looked good in the gym. Nacho would prefer that he retire and walk away for good to spend time with his family. In any event, he will support the boxer's decision and stand by his side if he intends to fight again.

Beltran will mention the subject of a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao. He seems to understand Marquez has very little interest in facing Pacquiao again, and the veteran has stated as such in multiple interviews.

"In the final days of September or early October we will talk to Juan Manuel to see what he decides. I'll talk to him about the fight with Pacquiao but we will always respect what he says. We do not know if he wants to keep fighting, but that is precisely what we want to discuss," said Beltran to ESPN Deportes.
