Hackney super featherweight Mark 'Flash' Alexander (8-4 0 KOs) revealed to BoxingScene.com that in April, he will finally be fighting again. This will be the first time he steps into the ring since his war with Michael Brodie in August 2009.
“I'm fighting April 24th at the York Hall,” revealed Alexander. “We have not got an opponent yet but we're looking at two or three guys.”
Many would wonder if Alexander felt he would have any ‘ring rust’ due to an eight-month layoff. Alexander minimised the importance of this. He said: “There should be some ring rust, but I'll be OK. I'm just ready to fight to be honest.”
In the aforementioned Brodie fight, Mark took his foe into the trenches, knocking him down in the first and third rounds, only to get stopped himself in the fourth. “My performance in the Brodie fight was OK,” admitted Alexander. “I would give myself a five out of ten, and that was down to two things: the training and weight making.”
“Training wise, I honestly had B class sparring,” he continued. “I'd tried to get the best; sparring, top class guys is what I needed but the management team I had at the time (who I'm no longer with) did not get me what I needed. Also, I'm 5’9’’; very tall with 8% body fat, so making weight has to be right but I made it the wrong way. I learned a lot from it though, and with all the championship fights he [Brodie] had, you could see the experience.”
Mark also explained how his training would be divided up, and where he would be located during it. He divulged: “For my next fight, and let's say the next two fights, I'll be training in London, but I'll be back training at the Kronk in the coming months.”
Alexander has always maintained that he has been unlucky, and that boxing politics have stopped him reaching his full potential. However, he intends to kickstart his career in April.
“Absolutely, I look to make a statement in my next fight. Yes, I'm in a very bad mood, but when I get back to the Kronk that's when it all starts. For my fans, the politics of boxing has been hard on me, but my time is coming real soon!” he exclaimed.
