Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, in conjunction with Global Boxing Promotions, has reached a multi-year promotional agreement with undefeated prospect Mariusz “The Polish Giant” Wach. A native of Krakow, Poland, the 31-year-old Wach is 24-0 with 12 KOs, including a fourth-round knockout victory over veteran Galen Brown on the undercard of Burchfield’s “Homecoming King” show last November at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I.

“These are the kind of people we need in boxing,” Burchfield said. “We saw first-hand in November just how powerful Mariusz is and how dedicated he and his team at Global Boxing are to making him the next heavyweight champion of the world. To make an impact in this weight class, you need to be big and you need power. Look at the Klitschko brothers [IBF, WBO and IBO champion Wladimir, and WBC champion Vitali]. They’ve combined for 97 wins with 88 knockouts. That’s the kind of power you need to succeed at this level, and that’s the kind of power Mariusz has. His record speaks for itself.”

“We are especially thrilled to be working with Global Boxing and its CEO Mariusz Kolodziej, who has proven his passion and desire for keeping boxing on the forefront of both the American and international sports landscape,” he continued. “This is a relationship built to last, and we’re exciting about working hand-in-hand to bring Mariusz Wach to the top of the heavyweight division and beyond.”

An alternate on Poland’s 2004 Olympic boxing team, Wach stands at a menacing, 6-foot-7 ½ with 90 amateur bouts on his resume. He debuted professionally in 2005 with a first-round TKO victory over Deniss Melniks and fought 18 of his first 22 bouts overseas in Germany and Poland before signing with Global Boxing in September of 2010. Among Wach’s most notable victories are a third-round knockout win over Jonathan Haggler in February in Newark, N.J., and a seventh-round TKO win over Eric Boose in July of 2008 on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.

“To work with a promoter such as Jimmy Burchfield on this heavyweight project is tremendous,” Kolodziej said. “The most important thing was finding a promoter who has knowledge and wisdom, knows how to make champions, isn’t afraid to work, and, most importantly, is a man of his word. No one fits that description better than Jimmy.

“Mariusz is a humble, hard worker and is on the fast track toward becoming the next great heavyweight champion of the world. With Jimmy Burchfield and CES in our corner, the sky’s the limit. This is an exciting day for boxing.”
