The Nevada State Athletic Commission has selected Vic Drakulich to referee the rematch between Juan Manuel  Marquez and Juan Diaz on July 31st at Mandalay Bay. Jerry Roth, Patricia Morse-Jarman and Glen Trowbridge will be the judges.

In more Antonio Margarito news, Top Rank President Todd DuBoef thinks the Nevada State Athletic Commission misread Margarito's intent. DuBoef told the Las Vegas Review Journal, "He (Margarito) wasn't trying to make an end-run around California. He has no plans to fight in California so why would he go there to get a license?"

Margarito served a year suspension that ended February 10th. He subsequently won a May bout in his ring return on May 8th in Mexico. Margarito is looked at as a Plan B option for Manny Pacquiao should Floyd Mayweather Jr. decline to fight the Filipino superstar in November.  If Mayweather accepts the fight then Top Rank wants to have a rematch between Miguel Cotto and Margarito at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in December.

"I think the commission misunderstood Antonio's motive for appearing before them," DuBoef said. "If he was going to fight in California then by all means, he should apply in California. But he is not fighting in California.  His intention is to fight in Nevada and that is why we went before the commission on Friday."

During the two hours spent on Margarito's license request, Commissioner Francisco Aguilar asked Margarito if he had any fights planned and Margarito replied no. DuBoef said he should have spoke up to clarify the matter. That is the why DuBoef feels that the NSAC misread Margarito's intent. "I probably should have said something. But the point is, he has no intention of fighting in California. He intends to fight in Nevada so why go to California?"

Said DuBoef. "Where is California's incentive to license Margarito if he isn't going to fight there?  They don't benefit at all by licensing him so why would they?"

DuBoef thinks that they still can strike a deal in Nevada. After Mayweather decides what he is going to do the dust should settle. "If we have something tangible with a signed deal for Margarito to fight in Las Vegas, I can't see Nevada punting again if we go back to them. The circumstances would be much different, and I'd be hopefully they would give him a license."
