If there is one fight promoter Gary Shaw would love to secure for junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo, it would be against former three-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito. Shaw wants the Mexican dream fight to happen, and a huge arena in Mexico would be the most logical place to stage the event.
Margarito has applied for a license to box in the state of Texas. He is tentatively scheduled to appear on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey undercard on March 13. Whether or not the application is approved, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is seriously considering the option of moving Margarito's return to May 8 in Mexico, where Mexican fighter will headline a Latin Fury pay-per-view. Angulo returns to HBO on April 24 against Joel Julio.
Angulo has often been compared to Margarito. Their come-forward styles are very similar. Shaw predicts nothing less than an all-out war if the two Mexicans are matched in the ring.
"That's the fight I would love to make for Angulo. I would love to make Angulo vs. Margarito and put that fight in Mexico," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
