A war of words has ignited between Mexican former world champions Antonio Margarito and Erik Morales.
Margarito (40-8, 27KOs) returned to the ring earlier this year, in his first fight since December of 2011. Morales (52-9, 36KOs ) has not fought since October of 2012, when he was knocked out in four rounds by Danny Garcia.
Margarito became offended by something Morales had said, regarding the 'Tijuana Tornado' deciding to continue his career. Morales believes Margarito should call it a day and walk away from the sport.
Margarito, who picked up two wins and plans to continue his career, is ready to fight him next.
Margarito said "I think he should come out of retirement. I says I'm not good in boxing. I remember when he was a ten round fighter and I was a four and six round fighter, and how I remember how left his eyes. Even with one eye I can beat him. He's going to have to work hard to get down to super welterweight because he's very fat."
Morales fired back, answering the call of Margarito and stating that he's willing to fight him for charity or an important cause.
"A few days ago Antonio Margarito challenged me and a while back he did so as well, so this is the second time. As you know already, it's been four years that I haven't stepped in the ring and I will not go back. It's very absurd to me, that Margarito wants to get into the ring with me knowing that I haven't fought in a long time and that I have no plans to do so. But I will gladly get in the ring with him if it's a benefit for someone or a school or a charity - for that I would gladly do it," Morales said.
"All I can say is I am grateful to all the people, with all the love and the support they have given me throughout my career and now in this challenge. It would be unethical, and I would never get in the ring irresponsibly. Our time is over. If he continues to fight, well, it is his decision. If he feels offended, then that will be another issue."
