There is no deal as of yet, but the negotiations continue for a featherweight battle between Mexican rivals Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz. The fight is being targeted to take place on a Showtime televised date of August 29th or September 5th, according to ESPN Deportes.
The rumored televised co-feature is a super featherweight rematch between the champion of the World Boxing Organization, Roman 'Rocky' Martinez and former world champion Orlando "Siri" Salido. The fought in an action fight this past April with Martinez capturing the belt.
The two locations mentioned so far are Los Angeles and Texas. Former three division champion Mares is 29 and has a record of 29-1-1 and 15 knockouts, and comes in with three wins in a row in the last 12 months. His only loss came in August 2013 against Jhonny Gonzalez.
Santa Cruz, 26, has professional record of 30-0-1 with 17 knockouts, and currently holds the WBC's super bantamweight title but is likely going to continue his featherweight campaign which he began in May.
