Former three division world champion Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15KOs) had a tough outing this past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. According to Mares, he started feeling ill after Friday's weighin and found himself under the weather on the morning of the fight. He made a decision to go forward, and won a ten round decision over Arturo Reyes.
On March 28th at The Palms in Las Vegas, WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (57-8, 48KOs) will defend his world title against Gary Russell Jr. (25-1, 14KOs) in a Showtime televised main event.
Mares is planning to be ringside for Gonzalez-Russell, hoping to get the winner next.
"Yes, I will be there. I'm going to be watching an hopefully I get the winner," Mares told BoxingScene.com.
Gonzalez shocked Mares in August of 2013, by scoring a first round TKO to hand the Mexican Olympian his first career defeat. Mares has won three in a row since.
