Former champion Marcos Maidana is looking forward to his own war on Saturday night at Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, against welterweight contender Josesito Lopez. He took a moment to discuss two additional topics.

Maidana would like to face WBC champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs), who faces WBA/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I think Canelo has a chance to win because he is stronger, bigger and hits hard. You have to land a good shot. [Mayweather] is very hard to find, but not invincible," Maidana told scribe John Jones.

Another hot topic is a possible fight between Maidana and his Argentine countryman, Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32KOs), who fights at 140-pounds. The fight has been discussed for well over a year now.

"People are always talking about this fight, but it nothing more than [talk]. I guess at some point it will happen. [Matthysse] is constantly talking [about this fight], but there is nothing concrete," Maidana said.
