Marco “El Tiburon” Romero, the rising middleweight prospect from Topeka, Kansas, hope to extend his record to 11-0 when he fights on December 13.

He has his second outing in his hometown of the year and his seventh overall for 2025 when he meets Maywood, Illinois’ Martez McGregor, who is 9-9 (7 KOs).

They will fight over eight rounds on the Rumble in Title Town – A Night of Champions in the Capital City event promoted by John Cantrell.

Romero, just 20, has dropped down to middleweight having previously campaigned at 168lbs.

“It’s no big deal,” Romero – a reported 130-5 as an amateur – said of dropping down a division. “My last year as an amateur, I fought at 165, which is halfway between middleweight and super middleweight in the pros. “We decided to start in the pros fight at 168, not killing me to make weight, and now we’re locked in as a professional as a middleweight. I walk around at 175. I’m working to bring my power from 168 to 160. It’s never been a problem for me [making weight] and it’ll be better for me.”

Romero is coming off a two-round knockout of Javier Dario Aragon, and his manager and trainer, John Brown, said: “Marco is stronger as he matures, but he can still make 160, which is a perfect weight for him. 2025 has been a great developmental year for Marco and 2026 will be his breakout year. He is definitely ready and anxious to show the world the skills he’s attained over the past 10 years.”

Romero believes he has matured this year, physically and mentally, and believes that has shown in the ring.

“Everything has worked out in a very good way. First, I traveled to the East Coast, then we got a little closer to home in Colorado, before fighting in Topeka and Wichita,” said the fighter. “We kept getting closer and closer to my hometown of Olathe, which we had built up for my fight there last September. My family, friends and fans really enjoyed watching me fight at home.”
