World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has presented the father of Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Nazareth a check for $25,000 covering the life insurance of the ill-fated fighter who died after a bout last July 22.

The 23 year old Nazareth died following a rematch with undefeated light welterweight Omar Chavez, the son of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez.

Nazareth was carried out of the ring on a stretcher after suffering a TKO at 2:59 of the fourth round of a scheduled six round bout with Chavez in Puerto Vallarta and rushed to hospital.

Nazareth underwent emergency brain surgery in a three-hour operation but died four days later.

Nazareth’s career  ended  with a record of 4-4 with 3 knockouts while Chavez who returned to the ring and scored a unanimous six round decision over James Venky last September 15 has a record of 18-0-1 with 13 knockouts.

Nazareth’s father said he wants to create a foundation for those who lost their sons and daughters.
