Fresh from his shocking victory, middleweight Marco Antonio Rubio (50-5, 43KOs) is ready for much bigger fights. Last Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, Rubio entered a hostile enviorment as a very big underdog. He stayed patient for the first few rounds and secured a very unexpected result when he stopped previously unbeaten knockout artist David Lemieux (25-1, 24KOs) in the seventh round.
Rubio returned to Mexico with his attorney Hector Sanchez and disclosed his desire to face the number one fighter in the division, Sergio Martinez. The fight with Lemieux was a mandatory WBC eliminator. Rubio is positioned to face the winner of Sebastian Zbik-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which takes place in June. But Rubio has a lot more interest in fighting Martinez.
Rubio is planning to take a small vacation with his family and then he will return to the gym to begin training for his next fight.
