WBC #9 rated heavyweight contender Manny Quezada (29-4) spoke to BoxingScene.com about his upcoming fight with Jason Gavern (18-7-3).  The bout takes place on April 8th at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Central California.  Quezada has reeled off eighteen consecutive victories and looks to take on a top ten contender soon after this fight.

BoxingScene.com:  Tell us about your upcoming fight with Jason Gavern.

Manny Quezada:  I am excited and I can't wait to get in there.  We are ready for the fight.  We have been working hard and I am excited about the fight.  He is going to come in ready to fight.  He is a durable fighter so I have to be ready to go in there hard and we will.

BoxingScene.com:  Last time we spoke you had just knocked Travis Walker out in the first round.  Coming off of that performance did you think that you would be in a bigger fight than this by now?

Manny Quezada:  Well yeah definitely I thought I would be in a bigger fight but you it is what it is.  My promoters and managers have a plan for me.  I am just going to continue to do my job and just continue to fight.  I thought I would be in a bigger fight but it is okay.  I am ready to go in there and do my thing.

BoxingScene.com:  I say that because after a big win like that it would be easy to not train as hard and suffer a let down going into a smaller fight against an opponent that has nothing to lose.  Sometimes those types of opponents under that type of circumstance can be dangerous.

Manny Quezada:  I here you.  I don't take nobody lightly.  Everybody is the same to me.  Once you get in the ring you have to be ready for anybody.  I am preparing for this guy just like I prepared for Travis Walker.

BoxingScene.com:  What are Gavern's strengths and weaknesses?

Manny Quezada:  His strengths are that he moves a lot.  He is a slick little boxer.  His weakness is that he doesn't have the pop of a lot of other fighters.  I think that is what is going to hurt him in the end.  I am going to put the pressure on him and if he doesn't have anything for me to take that step back I think I will eventually catch him and break him down.  I want to wear him down to the body first and then just overall break him down.

BoxingScene.com:  Are you looking to make a statement in this fight?

Manny Quezada:  I definitely want to make a statement.  I am at the point of my career where I need to make a statement.  If I can take this guy out I am going to take him out but again I am not going to go in there recklessly.  I am going to go in there and fight my fight.

BoxingScene.com:  Assuming you get the win who do you want to fight next?

Manny Quezada:  Whoever I can get.  I definitely want to fight for the title man.  I think I am right there.  I am in the top ten now in the WBC and I would like to fight the champion.

BoxingScene.com:  You have won 18 fights in a row.  To what do you attribute your success?

Manny Quezada:  Just my training and I have been working with Joe Goosen a lot.  I am back with my old trainer now as well.  I think it is just the way I train and prepare for my fights and the better sparring partners I have been getting.

BoxingScene.com:  A lot of the big heavyweight fights are fought in Europe.  Would you be willing to go overseas for a fight?

Manny Quezada:  I am willing to go anywhere to fight so definitely I would go to Europe to fight them.

BoxingScene.com:  Your friend Cris Arreola fights Tomasz Adamek on April 24th.  Give us your thoughts on that fight.

Manny Quezada:  That is going to be a great fight I think.  Not to take anything away from Adamek but I still see my boy Cris coming out with the win but again I am not taking anything away from Adamek.  He is a great fighter.  It should be a good action packed fight.  They both like to bring it so it should be good.

BoxingScene.com:  Do you have a message for the fans?

Manny Quezada:  I want to thank them again for the support and not just for myself but for all the fighters out there.  It is hard times right now and I appreciate their effort to get out there and buy the tickets and come and support us.
