Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao has invested in Gtoken, a Singaporean mobile gaming company, after recently hanging up his boxing gloves.
Details of the deal have not been disclosed, but Gtoken said the former world boxing champion had acquired a "meaningful" stake in the $60-million company.
"I'm confident that Gtoken has that special fighting spirit to be one of the strongest global players in the mobile gaming and advertising space, and I'm proud to be part of the team," Pacquiao said.
Gtoken describes itself as a mobile gaming publisher, advertising company, and fast-growing crowdsourcing community. It is reported to have over a million users in China, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan.
Pacquiao has various business interests, primarily in General Santos, the city in the southern islands of Mindanao where he lives. These include a boxing gym, boutique hotel, and a convenience store. He was the richest congressman in the Philippines with an estimated net worth of 1.7 billion pesos ($36.84 million).
According to Forbes magazine, Pacquiao was the world's second highest-paid celebrity in 2015 behind boxer Floyd Mayweather, who he lost to in Las Vegas in May last year with an injured shoulder. Pacquiao's earnings last year were estimated at $160 million.
Pacquiao last boxed in April when he was awarded a unanimous decision against U.S. fighter Timothy Bradley. He won a seat in the Philippine senate in May, and confirmed his retirement from boxing to focus on a political career.
Pacquiao was a chronic absentee congressman for two three-year terms, and has lost sponsorship from companies like Nike and Wonderful Pistachios after homophobic comments in which he described gay people in a TV interview as "worse than animals".
