Peter Manfredo, Jr. (27-3, 12 KOs) has come a long way being on the reality show the Contender, as he blows away previously unbeaten rival Joey Spina (19-1-1, 14 KOs) in three rounds before a cheering hometown crowd at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
After Spina appeared to have a good start in the first round, Manfredo came back in the second to almost put Spina away with a right hand. In the third round, Manfredo didnt muss as he continued to lands right hand bombs, including one that put Spina away.
Could Roy Jones, Jr. be next for Manfredo? Discussions are still ongoing for the potential bout to take place as the main event of an ESPN pay-per-view in early 2007. Manfredo would have to move up from super middleweight to light heavyweight to make the fight.
In the co-main event, another super middleweight, Allan Green (23-0, 16 KOs), kept his win streak alive by stopping former Olympian Jerson Ravelo (17-2, 12 KOs) by TKO in the eight round.
Ravelo was in the fight until a left hook sent Ravelo to the floor. Ravelo was able to beat the count, but a combination sent Ravelo back down and he appeared to be in very serious trouble as the referee waved off the contest.
