Contender star Peter Manfredo, Jr. will be stepping up to the big stage when he challenges undefeated WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe on April 7 at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff.
In a recent interview with FrankWarren.tv, Manfredo said that he does not agree with the popular opinion that Calzaghe is the number one super middleweight in the world. He feels that undefeated WBA/WBC super middleweight champ Mikkel Kessler is the better fighter. He admits that Calzaghe is good, but he does not consider him to be great.
"I actually think that Mikkel Kessler is the better of the two. Calzaghe is a good fighter but he's not a great fighter. His best fight was against Jeff Lacy but he didn't look so good in his last fight against Sakio Bika. I have what it takes to beat him, but saying that does not mean I don't have all the respect in the world for Calzaghe. He's making the 20th defence of his title. He is a great guy, I've met him and he was real nice to me. I just thank him for giving me this opportunity," Manfredo said.
