Hall of Famer Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini says Floyd Mayweather Jr. is never going to truly be "The Best Ever" ... until he steps in the ring and beats another great fighter in the final fight of his career on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A dangerous fighter like WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.
Mancini -- a 2015 Hall of Fame inductee -- was outside Ecco restaurant in New York when he sounded off about Mayweather fighting Andre Berto in September.
In fact, he says it will be a "terrible" fight ... and explains exactly why. Mancini says if Floyd really wants the boxing world to kiss the ring ... he's gotta face someone like GGG.
Interesting advice ... especially from a legend -- if you can overlook the fact Golovkin's knocked out 20 human beings in a row. Good luck, Floyd.
“I didn't know if that was made yet. They were talking about it. Berto, that's a terrible fight. Berto’s got no chin. He’s a warrior, so he’ll come to fight, but he's got no chin. So he’ll fight as long as he can and he'll get whacked out," Mancini told TMZ Sports.
"I respect [Mayweather], and most people respect his talent. He's a special talent. I have a hard time respect the fact that are guys that he should be fighting and he's not calling anybody out. And I understand though. At 38-years-old, I'm not sure I would either. If they are going to pay the type of money they pay me - why should I go for a hard fight when I can take an easy fight. The deal in boxing is - make the most money for the easiest fight. It's a business though, I get it."
"The last one out, why would you want to take a tough fight. Berto is a tough guy, he's a warrior, he'll come to fight. He'll fight as hard as he can for as long as he can. If you're going to talk about the best ever, then you have to fight the best out there. There are certainly better fighters than Berto to fight. Golovkin said he's come down to 154. [Mayweather] fought Canelo at 154, fight Golovkin at 154. If he beats Golovkin, then hey - I'll say he's a top 10 all-time."
