BoxingScene.com has learned that talks are moving forward for a potential fight between former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (26-2, 5KOs) and rising contender Mike Alvarado (25-0, 18KOs). If a deal can be made, the fight will take place on the pay-per-view undercard to Kelly Pavlik vs. Sergio Mora on June 27 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Malignaggi suffered a tough loss to Ricky Hatton last November. He returned to action last weekend on the Froch-Taylor card, winning an eight round decision over Chris Fernandez. He wants to work his way back to a major title shot. Alvarado is a rising star in Top Rank's stable of fighters. He looks a bit green at times, but makes up for everything with his punching power. Alvarado sees action this Saturday in Las Vegas on the Pacquiao-Hatton undercard. The weekend victim is Juaquin Gallardo (18-7, 5KOs).
