British welterweight star Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs) returns to New York City for the first time since he made his American debut in May of 2010, with a TKO win over Pauli Malignaggi at The Theater in Madison Square Garden.
This time, Khan is going to fight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. And he faces another New York fighter, Long Island's Chris Algieri (20-1, 8KOs), in a Premier Boxing Champions main event on Spike TV.
Malignaggi is friends with Algieri, but finds himself unable to back the hometown fighter in victory. He predicts the style of Khan is going to create multiple problems for Algieri. Malignaggi says Khan should have very few issues in getting a win.
"I think stylistically he doesn't match up with Amir at all. I think its a bad matchup for Chris. I expect Amir to win comfortably. And it's not because Chris is a bad fighter. Styles make fights and boxers typically do not do well against Amir. It will keep Amir in the conversation, but whether or not he gets Floyd Mayweather next..I don't thinl anybody knows," Malignaggi told BoxingScene.com/Be Real TV.
"I think Amir has a solid opponent in front of him, but the style benefits Amir. Stylistically it's a fight that benefits Amir."
