Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7KOs) was scheduled to return to action this coming Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn against Danny O'Connor as the Premier Boxing Champions televised co-feature to Amir Khan vs. Chris Algieri.

Malignaggi, inactive since last April's knockout loss to Shawn Porter, suffered a cut in training and was forced to withdraw.

"I probably can’t spar for 30-45 days, then I have some bone spurs in my elbow, so while I’m out, I’m going to get some surgery and get that taken care of as well, and then try to come back in the fall," Malignaggi told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

O'Connor went ahead this past Saturday night, after getting a new date, and scored a knockout win. Malignaggi is not against facing O'Connor - but he's also open to the idea of heading directly into a bigger fight.

"I haven’t even thought about it that far ahead really. I’m not against fighting Danny O’Connor, I’m not against a bigger fight in the fall, I’m not sure. I think the frustrating thing was that I had the training camp, I was making the weight, made all the sacrifices necessary and then the fight gets cancelled right at the end. So I got to go through a whole training champ, that whole process all over again, so before we go through that process again, we will probably plan out something, but we will see," Malignaggi said.
